Reconnecting With Comics - A Gentle Comics Habit.

Let’s take it back to the end of 2024. On the verge of returning full-time to comics and sequential storytelling, this time from the editorial side, I found myself craving the act of making comics again. Not for money, not as a job, but for me; for fun; for the love of comics!

Cue in Artist and Professor Sophie Yanow, and her retrospective on what she calls the Gentle Comics Habit. Her desire to rebuild a habit of making comics, especially self-motivated ones really resonated with me. As a colorist, I enjoy working on comics as part of a team, and not being the main Illustrator always has allowed me the freedom of not putting too much overwhelming pressure on myself. I found working on my own personal illustrations allows me that creative freedom and keeps it enjoyable. However, I did find wanting to make a comic, for myself, without the external pressures of a publisher, or a job, or even a client.

Yanow’s approach to the challenge sounds incredibly fun, and I am really looking forward to 2025 and making art for my own enjoyment!

Here is today’s 1 minute, first of the year comic, published right before the end of the day!
