2 Minute Comic
2 minute drawing of a scene I saw today in the marshes. It’s ugly but I think it was a young White Ibis wading around during low tide.
Originally this was just going to be a quick way to put up some quick (and eventually not-quick) comics as much as I can this year. I got to thinking, after yesterday’s post, that I’ve been thinking about journaling in one way or another for a while now. I think this blog might be a good outlet for that in a way. Now, not every post will have a blurb, or text to accompany the day’s comic, but I figured, why not? I haven’t really written anything since my MFA thesis 4 years ago. I tried with movie reviews on Letterboxd, but I hate writing on my phone, and I started finding it hard putting my thoughts on what I watched without feeling a bit pretentious.
Michelle has been awesome in encouraging me to get back in the habit of writing, and I want to use that momentum to keep myself going!
On the Marsh and Tides
We’ve been living in the marshes for 2 years now, and I always love driving in and out of town, and seeing the vast difference between high and low tides. The first week of a new year is always an interesting time. We evaluate the previous year in hindsight, while looking forward to what we hope for in the current one. I guess thinking about the tides today while walking around the marsh (state park, not just randomly) got me thinking about the highs and lows we experience through the year (original, I know!). I’m fortunate to be starting this new year with very exciting things in the Horizon, after ending 2024 in a very high note. It’s easier sometimes to notice when the tide is low, because life feels emptier, or because hardships can really throw our life for a loop. But even low tide can bring opportunity. In the marshes, smaller wading birds take advantage of the exposed ground to look for food.
I don’t know that I had a point to make with all that, just thinking “out loud.” Remember life comes in cycles and we have to adapt, and be resourceful? I guess that’s a good lesson to learn from the birds.
